Daniel De Alfonso “For the first time, the public powers of the country show to the citizens the common siege to fraud and corruption”

Signatura de la declaracióThe director of the Anti-Fraud of Catalonia, Daniel de Alfonso Laso, qualified this day as a “unique moment” the presentation of the institutional declaration against fraud and corruption that was subscribed by the three Catalan public powers and the Public Prosecutor’s Office in commemoration of the International Day Against Corruption.

The president of the Catalan Government, the Right. Honourable Artur Mas, the first vice-president of the Parliament, Lluís Corominas, the President of the High Court of Justice, Miguel Ángel Gimeno and the head of the Catalan Prosecutor’s Office, Teresa Compte, gave support to the Anti-Fraud’s Office initiative. During the ceremony, the director transmitted a reassuring message to the citizens stating that “the country counts with the mechanisms and the will to stand up against fraud”.

The Right Honourable Artur Mas highlighted the importance of the “moral, civic and economic values of honesty” essential elements “in the permanent fight against fraud and corruption”.

Mr. Lluís Corominas referred to the important role of institutions in this fight and to the fact that the Parliament of Catalonia is working on a Catalan law of transparency and access to information.

Mr. Miguel Ángel Gimeno stated that “there is the need of a moral renewal to demand high costs for all the corrupt persons” and Ms.Teresa Compte insisted on the fact that “the confidence of the institutions cannot be squandered and that institutions have to be first in applying the law”.
